Melbourne: Radiance legal at the Showdown, main event nearly gone

Let’s Play Games put Melbourne Showdown Series tickets on sale and, in the same pass, added two lines to the event page that were not there yesterday: the main event is capped at 256 players and Set 5 Radiance will be legal, «in accordance with UVS procedure». The seats went fast. On Tuesday evening a player posted a screenshot on r/riftboundtcg showing the main event ticket sold out with the waitlist open. As we write, the official page reads Almost Full.

What changedRadiance is in from day one

When we covered the stop yesterday, the organiser’s page listed only the Competitive Standard Constructed format and pointed to whichever official rules were in force on the day. Which sets were allowed was written nowhere, and we flagged it as an open question. It is there now, in a single line: «In accordance with UVS procedure – Set 5 “Radiance” will be legal for this event».

The weekend opens on October 23, the day Radiance hits shop shelves. The organiser also spelled out what Friday’s side events are for: they will all revolve around the new set, so players can pick up the singles they are missing before Saturday’s main event. One caveat is worth keeping in mind: the sentence comes from the organiser, not from Riot, which so far has published neither a Tournament Rules update nor any note on Radiance legality.

A second new detail concerns prizes. The metal «Best Of» cards handed out in Melbourne will be non-foil Legends from sets 3 to 5, meaning Unleashed, Vendetta and Radiance. Spiritforged, the second set, drops out of that prize pool. That is exactly what Reddit had guessed when the poster first surfaced, and it is about prizes, not about what decks are legal.

The ticketsSeventy dollars, one each, gone in hours

A main event seat costs 70 Australian dollars plus a 4.17 booking fee, and is limited to one per customer. Sales opened on the Australian evening of Tuesday, September 23, and shortly afterwards u/Ok_Virus_4415 posted the page on r/riftboundtcg: Main Event Entry marked Sold out, with a waitlist button where the buy button used to be.

In the post the author adds that seats vanished «one second» after the sale opened and blames scalper bots: that is his reading, not a documented fact, and neither the organiser nor the platform has said anything about it. All the screenshot proves is that the ticket was gone. A few hours later the official page no longer says sold out but Almost Full: a handful of seats came back, the way they do when half-finished carts expire.

The Melbourne weekend schedule (local time)
WhenWhat is played
Friday October 23, from 9amOn-demand side events built around Radiance

Sunday October 25, from 10amTwo more Swiss rounds, then a Top 8 cut

Why it matters here. Melbourne is the first sanctioned event to put in writing something every European player cares about: Radiance goes into tournaments on street date, with no grace period. Anyone in Italy planning practice for the next European stops and for November’s Regional Championship can work on a format that will already include the new set by late October, with Best Of prizes sliding to Unleashed-Vendetta-Radiance. There is a second, more practical lesson too: 256 seats gone in a few hours say that when the next European sale opens, it pays to be at the screen on time, exactly as it did on September 18 for Regional Championship tickets.

The short version

  • The organiser states that Set 5 Radiance will be legal at the Melbourne Showdown on October 23-25; Riot has published nothing on the subject yet.
  • A 256-seat main event, 70 Australian dollars plus a 4.17 fee, one ticket per customer: sold out on Tuesday evening, now listed as Almost Full with a waitlist.
  • The metal «Best Of» cards on the line come from sets 3 to 5, so from Unleashed onwards: Spiritforged is out.
