Ahri and Heimerdinger: the leaked list just got two receipts

Ahri, Confident, the Radiance champion unit

On September 22 an unconfirmed list put Ahri and Heimerdinger among the Radiance champions, and we covered it while flagging that Riot had said nothing. Three days later, out of the Los Angeles Regional Qualifier, both cards showed up: Ahri, Confident and Heimerdinger, Academy Instructor, both champion units. The images are circulating on r/riftboundtcg, captured from the event broadcast, and they bring another brand-new keyword with them: Disarm.

Until Radiance launches
in …

IoniaAhri, Confident: 4 Energy, 4 Might, Disarm

The card reads Champion Unit, Ahri, Ionia. She costs 4 Energy for 4 Might and carries two lines of text. The first is the keyword: Disarm, with the reminder "when I attack, give an enemy unit here −1 Might this turn". The second is what makes her her own card: "when you reduce the Might of an enemy unit here by 1 or more, give me +1 Might this turn". Art by Naifan Zhang.

Put together, the two lines feed each other: Ahri attacks, shaves a point off the defender and hands it to herself, arriving at 5 against a blocker that just dropped to 3. But the second line is not limited to Disarm — it triggers on any Might reduction at that battlefield. If the deck packs other ways to weaken units, Ahri grows every single time. She is the kind of card that looks tame on its own and turns into a problem inside a shell built for her.

One detail worth flagging: Disarm does not appear on any card from the released sets in the catalogue we maintain on the site. That makes it the second new keyword seen today, after Show Off. The card's collector number is not readable, because the broadcast subtitles cover it in the capture.

The other card is pricier and slower: a champion unit tagged Heimerdinger, Piltover and Yordle, 6 Energy for 5 Might, numbered RAD 132/167, art by Polar Engine Studio. It has a single line: "if you would play a unit token to a location while I'm at a battlefield, you may play a 3 Might Mech unit token to that same location instead".

That is a replacement, not an addition: it does not multiply your tokens, it upgrades them. Mechs have existed since Origins and plenty of cards in the pool already make them; the point here is that every unit token you produce, whatever it would have been, can become a 3-Might body while Heimerdinger holds a battlefield. Six Energy is a lot, but a deck that churns out tokens suddenly has a quality multiplier it did not have before.

Ionia. Disarm; gains +1 Might every time an enemy unit at that battlefield loses 1 or more Might.

Piltover, Yordle. RAD 132/167. Turns unit tokens into 3-Might Mech tokens.

Why it matters to us. Three days ago we published that leaked list and said plainly that Riot had not confirmed it; today two names from it have real cards in front of everyone. For players in Italy the practical upshot is twofold. First, the rest of that list deserves to be taken more seriously — while still being unconfirmed. Second, and more concrete: Radiance is bringing at least two new keywords, Show Off and Disarm, which means October 23 does not just add cards, it adds rules to learn before the first tournament.

The short version

  • Ahri, Confident and Heimerdinger, Academy Instructor were shown at the Los Angeles Regional Qualifier.
  • Ahri: Ionia champion unit, 4 Energy and 4 Might, with Disarm plus +1 Might on any enemy Might reduction at that battlefield.
  • Heimerdinger: Piltover and Yordle champion unit, 6 Energy and 5 Might, RAD 132/167, upgrades unit tokens into 3-Might Mechs.
  • Disarm appears on no card from earlier sets: it is the second new keyword of the day after Show Off.
  • Both champions were already on the unconfirmed September 22 list, which now has two confirmations.
