Mordekaiser, Iron Revenant: your trash becomes Power
Mordekaiser has his Radiance Legend, and it is called Iron Revenant (RAD 143/167). The card went up on October 1 as an IGN exclusive reveal and was relayed to r/riftboundtcg within minutes. It is a Fury + Order Legend that banishes a unit or gear from your trash and hands you 1 Power of any color in return — spendable on units and gear only. As we write, the card has not appeared on playriftbound.com yet.
The cardWhat it does, plainly
Here is the printed text: «Reaction — Banish a unit or gear from your trash, [exhaust]: Add 1 Power of any color. Spend this Power only to play units or gear». In plain terms: once per turn, if your trash holds at least one unit or gear you are willing to lose for good, Mordekaiser gives you an extra colored resource. You never play the Legend and it never costs you a card from hand — it sits on the table from turn one and the ability is always there.
There are two brakes on it. First, that Power does not pay for spells, only for units and gear. Second, your trash starts empty, so for the opening turns Mordekaiser does nothing at all. This is a Legend that switches on once the deck has already thrown something away — which is exactly the deck Mordekaiser points at: his Radiance Champion Unit, already in our spoiler grid as 137/167 (9 Energy, 8 Might), asks you to discard a card to kill a unit or gear.
| Legend | The champion card that sits in play from turn one and is never cast: it grants a fixed ability for the whole game. |
| Reaction | You may use it outside your own turn too, in response to what the opponent is doing. |
| Exhaust | The Legend turns sideways and straightens up at the start of your turn, so in practice the ability fires once per turn. |
| Banish | Remove a card from the game for good. Here you take it from the trash, not from the board. |
| Power | The colored resource you need to play cards, as opposed to Energy, which is colorless. |
| Overnumbered | The collector version numbered past the set total: same card, art pushed out to the full frame. |
The comparisonHe is Kai'Sa for units
Anyone who has played since Origins will spot the pattern instantly. Kai'Sa, Daughter of the Void exhausts and adds 1 Power of any color, but for spells only: that engine has propped up half the format. Iron Revenant is the same idea flipped — units and gear instead of spells — with a cost Kai'Sa never pays: the card banished out of the trash.
One question keeps coming back in the thread: can that Power pay for Accelerate, the extra cost some units ask to arrive early? Several readers say yes, because Accelerate is part of the unit's cost, but that is a community reading: Riot has not weighed in, and we are passing it along for what it is, an open argument.
RAD 143/167
Legend, Fury and Order colors. Art signed TUTU. It is the eighth of the nine Radiance Legends to show up in previews.
An Overnumbered too
The same reveal showed the Overnumbered variant alongside the base card: not a different card, the same one with the art extended across the whole frame.
Why it matters to us. Radiance lands on October 23 in English, French and Chinese: in Italy we will be playing out of English packs, and the first tables are the Pre-Rifts from October 16 to 22 in local stores. So anyone who wants to turn up ready for that weekend has to decide now whether Mordekaiser's red-yellow is worth a deck: this is a Legend that does nothing on turn one and plenty from turn three, which means the cards that fill the trash early will decide it. We have until October 9, the end of preview season, to find out which ones those are.
