2v2 final point: Ride The Wind no longer wins on their turn
Riot published the Radiance core rules patch notes yesterday afternoon. They take effect on October 16, the day the Pre-Rift events begin. One entry only concerns players who play in pairs: from that date, the special 2v2 final point rules apply only during your own turn or your teammate’s, never during an opponent’s. At the table that means sneaking into the last open battlefield on an opponent’s turn and closing the game out — the Ride The Wind play — no longer wins. It draws you a card instead.
The textWhat Riot actually wrote
The notes went up on October 9 at 16:00 UTC. The entry is titled 2v2 Scoring and it is tagged “clarified rule” rather than “new rule”: Riot says the 2v2 scoring rules were “slightly contradictory”, were tidied up in the Vendetta update, and have now been “fully aligned” with 1v1. The line that matters: the final point and scoring eligibility special rules “now apply only to teams that maintain control of a battlefield during their own or a teammate’s turn, and not during an opponent’s turn”.
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Score | Taking the point from a battlefield, either by Conquer or by Hold. A battlefield can be scored once per turn, and in 2v2 once per team. |
| Conquer / Hold | Conquer: taking a battlefield that was not yours. Hold: keeping one you already controlled at the start of your turn. |
| Final point | The last point, the one that ends the game. 2v2 is won at 11, so it is the point you take from 10. |
The ruleWhy the last point is not like the others
The core rules put a gate on it in every format: when you try to gain a point from a Conquer and you are one point from victory, you only get it if you scored every battlefield that turn. If you did not, you draw a card instead. It exists so games do not end on a quiet move into a battlefield nobody was watching.
2v2 came with a discount on that gate: when you take the final point on your turn or your teammate’s, you may skip the battlefields your ally was occupying at the scoring step of that turn’s beginning phase. Without it a team would almost never close, because a battlefield only scores once per team. From October 16 the discount only applies on your team’s turns: on an opponent’s turn you are back to the 1v1 rule, and all three battlefields have to be scored that turn.
The steal
Your team is on 10 and controls 2 of 3 battlefields. On an opponent’s turn you play Ride The Wind (2 Energy, Chaos: move a friendly unit and ready it), walk into the third battlefield and conquer it. Final point, game over.
Same play, one card
Same board, October 16 onwards. You conquer the third battlefield, but the other two were not scored on that turn and the discount does not apply on their turn: no final point, you draw a card, their turn carries on.
The worked example comes from u/cyberbabyangel on r/riftboundtcg. The same day u/Apk07 opened a thread asking for help, and the confusion was fair: the rules text you can find online says nothing explicit about opponents’ turns.
The documentThe updated core rules are nowhere to be found
The notes say the rulings are based on “the Core Rules Document that also releases today”, which takes precedence over everything else. Yet the article links no PDF, and the copy being passed around in the threads is still dated June 18, 2026: we downloaded it, and the 2v2 final point entry is still in its old shape. Until the new PDF surfaces, the most current official text on 2v2 is the patch notes article itself.
Why it matters to us. 2v2 is not a sideshow in Italy: it is the format of our own Zone 2v2 Open and of a lot of store tables, where four players are simply easier to find than eight. The steal on an opponent’s turn was one of the most used lines, and from Thursday October 16 it is gone — anyone who misses the memo risks calling a win that is not there, Radiance Pre-Rift events included.
The short version
- From October 16 the special 2v2 final point rules only apply on your own team’s turns.
- On an opponent’s turn all three battlefields must be scored that turn, or you draw a card instead of winning.
- Riot calls it a clarified rule: the wording does not change, the reading does.
- The updated core rules PDF is not linked yet, so the patch notes article is the reference for now.
