Riftbound 2027: Regional Madrid lands on February 5-7

Riot has put the first 2027 Premier Play dates on the board, and Europe finally has one of its own: Riftbound Regional Madrid, February 5-7, 2027 at IFEMA. Two weeks earlier it is Philadelphia’s turn, February 12-14, and from March 26-28 Dallas hosts the first Riftbound Continental. All three events orbit Set 6, Legacy, the first release of 2027. The vocabulary changes too: Regional Qualifiers are now simply Regionals, and Continentals take over from the Regional Championships.

The announcement went up on the official site on the afternoon of September 23, in the organized play section. Riot is upfront about the gaps: the full Premier Play picture is not ready yet and will land «in the next few months», but the early-year dates are going out now so that travelling players can plan ahead. For a community like ours, which learned at Lucca how much flights and hotels weigh on a weekend, five months of notice is news in itself.

The English version of the article carries one line the Italian one does not: during the Legacy season there is one more Regional coming to Oceania, with venue and dates still to be locked. Riot says it will update the same article once they are. No other European stop is on the table for now — Madrid is the only one.

RegionalsNew name, same shape

The words «Regional Qualifier» are being retired: what everybody called an RQ is now just a Regional. The structure, though, is the one we saw in Barcelona, Singapore and Los Angeles: three days, two badge types, a main event played across days two and three.

Side events and community

No main event, but side events, merch drops and community activities for anyone tagging along or coming just to watch.

ContinentalsOne tournament per set, on rotation

The real change sits one rung higher. Riftbound Continentals inherit from this year’s Regional Championships, but they change both their rhythm and their front door. Instead of bunching up at the end of the season, they will be spread across the year, one tied to each set and hosted in a different city each time. Dallas opens the run in March, at the tail of the Legacy season.

The format runs three days, and day one is the interesting part: it is an open-entry qualifier for players who do not hold an invite yet, feeding straight into Saturday’s main event. In practice, you no longer have to finish near the top of a Regional to get a shot at a Continental — you can show up on Friday and win enough matches. For everyone else there are still side events and chances to meet creators and the Riftbound team.

Why it matters for us. Madrid is the closest Premier Play event ever put on the calendar for Italian players: a two-hour flight, one weekend, no jet lag. Anyone who skipped Barcelona or the European Championship this year on cost grounds now has five months to plan. The Continental’s open day one changes the maths too: an invite earned in Madrid is worth a trip to Dallas, and even without one the door stays open. What Riot has not said a word about yet is badge pricing, sale dates and capacity — that is the next announcement to watch for.

The short version

  • Riftbound Regional Madrid runs February 5-7, 2027 at IFEMA, the only European stop announced.
  • Philadelphia comes first (February 12-14), then the first Continental in Dallas, March 26-28.
  • RQs are now Regionals; Continentals replace the Regional Championships and open day one to everyone.
  • Badges and pricing are still unannounced, and one more Regional is coming to Oceania.

Update, September 24, 2026. Riot corrected the schedule: Regional Madrid no longer runs February 26-28 but February 5-7, 2027. The change was announced on X and the official Premier Play article has been updated: the dates you read here are the new ones. Philadelphia (February 12-14) and Continental Dallas (March 26-28) are unchanged.
