There are rumors going around about the print run of Vendetta, Riftbound's Set 4: word is it will be printed in smaller quantities than Unleashed, on levels closer to Spiritforged — and in any case nowhere near the record numbers of Origins. Why? A mix of factors: too many Unleashed boxes printed and still sitting on shelves, a drop in active players, and the arrival of summer, the deadest stretch of the year for a card game. The good news for anyone who just wants to crack packs: Vendetta boxes will be around. But the real question is a different one, and the answer won't come until September.

The heart of the chatter is the print run. After an Unleashed produced in large volumes, the feeling is that Vendetta goes back to printing less. In short: don't expect the mountains of product of Unleashed, nor the day-one hysteria of Origins. If the rumors are right, Vendetta sits somewhere in between, with a more measured availability.

A lower print run doesn't mean “impossible to find.” With current demand and warehouses still full of Unleashed, we're unlikely to see the desperate scramble of Origins. Anyone who wants to open packs or complete their collection will most likely have no trouble finding product on shelves or at partner stores.

The flip side mostly concerns collectors and speculators: if the print run really is contained, over the long term the most sought-after Vendetta cards could hold their value better than those from a heavily printed set. Here's the most important point. A low print run in the middle of summer is not a good indicator of the game's health: it's the wrong time to judge. The real test is September, when holidays end, tournaments start back up and the community gets active again. That's when we'll find out whether Vendetta sells out — a sign the game has bounced back — or whether it lingers on shelves, as happens when the hype fades.
