Ziggs, Hexplosives Expert: one Bomb a turn, for a single rune

Ziggs, Hexplosives Expert, the Riftbound Radiance Legend in its Showcase print

Ziggs, Hexplosives Expert is official: it sits in Riot's card gallery as RAD 141/167, Rare, domains Fury and Chaos. It is the easiest Legend in Radiance to explain: one energy, any rune, exhaust, and a Bomb token lands on a battlefield. Every turn, and it never costs you a card from hand. There is also a Showcase print, 169/167, full-art, by Kindlejack. Radiance releases on October 23.

The cardWhat it does, in one line

The printed text: «1 and 1 Rune, Exhaust: Play a Bomb gear token to a battlefield». The card then reminds you what a Bomb actually is: «It has [Deploy]. When it dies, deal 2 to an enemy there and kill your other Bombs there».

The card's wording, in plain English
LegendThe card face up in front of you from turn one: never played, never killed. It sets your deck's colours and lends you an ability you can use every turn.
ExhaustYou turn the Legend sideways. It means «already used this turn» — so the ability fires once per turn.
TokenA card that lives outside your deck: you conjure it when an effect says so.
BombA gear token with Deploy. It does nothing while it sits there — it pays out the moment it dies.
DeployIt can only be placed on a battlefield, and it dies when an opponent manages to hold that spot.

In practiceA toll your opponent has to pay

The whole point of a Bomb is that the damage arrives when it dies, and it dies when your opponent takes that battlefield. So every Bomb you place is a toll: they can have the spot, but taking it costs one of their units 2 damage. And you spent no card at all — one energy and one rune.

Watch one line that reads badly the first time: when one of your Bombs dies, it also kills your other Bombs there. Stacking five Bombs on the same battlefield does not multiply the damage — one goes off and the rest vanish doing nothing. Bombs want to be spread out, one per battlefield, or gathered up and detonated deliberately with the right card.

PartnersThe cards it wants next to it

The card that fixes the stacking problem is Hexplosive Minefield (RAD 142/167, Epic, 2 energy, Fury and Chaos), Ziggs's signature spell: kill as many of your Bombs as you like, then at end of turn replay that many onto a single battlefield. It is a way to relocate the whole arsenal where it matters, not a way to deal more damage.

Then there is Ziggs, Short-Fused (RAD 023/167, Epic, 5 energy, 5 Might, 1 Power, Fury), the champion unit: playing it drops a Bomb, and — more importantly — it makes abilities of friendly gear deal 1 bonus damage. With it on the table every Bomb goes from 2 to 3, enough to finish most small units.

Two commons round it out, both producing Bombs for free: Amateur Demolitionist (RAD 001/167, 2 energy) and Satchel Charge (RAD 096/167, 3 energy), which moves one of your units and then places a Bomb, and can be played during a showdown.

Where it came fromSeen in Los Angeles, now in the gallery

The first photo of the card surfaced in late September from the Radiance preview at the Los Angeles Regional Qualifier — the Signature print, with no confirmation from Riot at the time. Since then the Legend has landed in the official gallery with its final number, rarity and text. Every other Ziggs card revealed so far is in our spoiler grid and on the Radiance set page.

Why it matters for us. This is the cheapest Legend in the set to try out: the ability burns no cards, so it works just as well in a low-budget build with no expensive rares. For Italian players heading to Nexus Night and the Pre-Rift events between October 16 and 22 — and then aiming at the European Regional Championship in Stuttgart on November 6-8, where Radiance will be legal — this is a deck you can assemble out of the set's commons and uncommons.

The short version

  • Ziggs, Hexplosives Expert is official: RAD 141/167, Rare Legend, Fury and Chaos, plus a 169/167 Showcase by Kindlejack.
  • Ability: 1 energy, any rune, exhaust the Legend to place a Bomb gear token on a battlefield, once per turn.
  • A Bomb deals 2 when it dies, but it kills your other Bombs in the same place: spread them out, do not stack them.
  • It pairs with Hexplosive Minefield (RAD 142/167), Ziggs, Short-Fused (RAD 023/167, +1 damage to gear abilities), Amateur Demolitionist and Satchel Charge.
