Radiance: the six official Alt Art Runes are all about music

Riot updated its official Radiance article on October 5 and filled in one of the blanks it had been saving: the six Alt Art Runes of the set, one per domain, each built around a musical instrument. The codes run from RAD R01a to RAD R06a and the art is credited to Yeon Art Studio. The images had been doing the rounds in community previews for days; as of yesterday they sit on Riot's own site, which makes them confirmed. Radiance launches on October 23, 2026.

Starting from scratchWhat a Rune is, and what makes one Alt Art

If you already play, you know this. If you don't, it takes two lines. In Riftbound, Runes don't live in your main deck: they sit in a separate pile, the Rune Pool, and that is where the energy to pay for everything else comes from. Riot's own site sums it up in a slogan — "Fuel Your Power with Runes" — and in official decklists the Rune Pool is listed apart from the Main Deck.

There are six Runes, one for each domain, and they never change: Fury, Calm, Mind, Body, Chaos, Order. An Alt Art is the very same card wearing a different illustration. The treatment changes, the rules text does not. If you already run a Fury Rune, the alt art Fury Rune does precisely what it did before. It is a collector's piece, not a new card to learn.

How rare are theyOne slot per pack, and it is shared three ways

Here is the number that matters if you open packs. Riot's official breakdown of a Radiance booster gives this family of cards a single slot, and it reads: "1 Token, Rune, or Alt Art Rune". In other words, the same slot can hand you a token, an ordinary Rune or an alt art Rune. There is no slot reserved for alt arts, and Riot has published no rate for how often each of the three turns up.

The rest of a Radiance pack goes like this: 7 commons, 3 uncommons, a foil slot that can be common, uncommon, rare or epic, one rare or epic, the slot that can return a rare, epic, Alt Art, Special Alt, Overnumber or Ultimate Rare, plus the token/Rune slot and an informational insert.

The Vault holds 36 Runes

The Radiance Vault comes with the storage box, six boosters, foil tokens and a set of 36 Runes. The official article does not say whether those are the alt arts or the standard Runes, so until Riot writes it down the question stays open.

One more update to come

Riot says it will update the Radiance article once more, on October 16 at 10:00 AM Pacific (7:00 PM in Italy). That is when the Showdown decklists and the Nexus Night promos land.

ContextThey were already out there, but now they count

The six illustrations are not a complete surprise: copies had been circulating in preview channels for days, and our own spoiler grid already carried them, flagged as unconfirmed. What changed is that Riot is publishing them, with legible codes and a credit to the artist. From today they sit in the grid marked as confirmed, with the official image.

The musical theme is not a one-off flourish. Radiance is the set built around the bands of the League of Legends universe, from K/DA to Heartsteel, and the Runes are where that theme shows up even when you are not looking at a champion. It is a neat way to tie together six cards that, by definition, hit the table in every single game.

Why it matters to us. Runes are the cards you touch in every game, which makes them the cards everyone sees on the table. In Italy, where most players buy single packs at their local shop rather than whole cases, an alt art that drops out of the same slot as a token is the most reachable collector's piece there is. For the Pre-Rift events of October 16-22 in Italian stores, it is also realistically the only alt art you can hope to crack in one evening.

The short version

  • Riot confirmed the six Radiance Alt Art Runes on October 5: codes RAD R01a through RAD R06a, art by Yeon Art Studio.
  • One per domain — Fury, Calm, Mind, Body, Chaos and Order — each with an instrument or a piece of music gear.
  • They are alt arts, not new cards: the illustration changes, what the Rune does does not.
  • They come out of the single "1 Token, Rune, or Alt Art Rune" pack slot; Riot gave no rates.
  • Radiance launches October 23, 2026; the final update to the official article is due October 16.
