Sacramento, 755 players: Riven is the most played Legend

Riven, The Exile, the most played Radiance Legend at the Sacramento Showdown Series

The biggest tournament of Radiance release weekend isn't in Melbourne, it's in Sacramento, California: the $25,000 Showdown Series closed registration at 755 players. The most popular Legend in the room is Riven, The Exile at 12.6% of the field, almost double the runner-up. She is also the only new-set card in the top five: everyone else stuck with Vendetta and Unleashed. The top four walk away with a Regional Championship invite — Stuttgart on November 6-8 included.

The eventWhat the Sacramento Showdown is

The Showdown Series is the official circuit Riot and UVS hand over to partnered organizers: smaller than a Regional Qualifier, but handing out the same Regional Championship invites. This one runs October 24-25 at the Sacramento Convention Center under Laughing Dragon Events, who branded it the Riftbound Showdown 25K after its prize pool. Entry ran from $75 to $85 depending on when you signed up, $89.25 once platform fees were added.

The format mirrors Melbourne, only far more crowded. Saturday is Swiss: nobody is knocked out along the way, and every round pairs you against players on your own score. Only competitors sitting on X-2 or better — two losses at most — come back on Sunday, and the weekend ends with a single-elimination Top 8. At 755 entrants the event lands in the top bracket of the official Riftbound Organized Play table, Tier I, which starts at 512 players: four Regional Championship invites and sixteen Regional Qualifier passes.

The metaWhat people actually brought

Your Legend is the card that defines the deck: it sits on the table from start to finish and dictates which colours you may play. Lists are locked in at registration, so these numbers are final — the first real snapshot of the game with Radiance legal, on a sample large enough to mean something.

Riven, The ExileRadiance9512.6%
Kennen, Heart of the TempestVendetta567.4%
Kai'Sa, Daughter of the VoidUnleashed344.5%
Akali, Rogue AssassinVendetta344.5%
Evelynn, Agony's EmbraceRadiance334.4%
Rengar, PridestalkerUnleashed304%

Two things stand out. First, the field is wide open. Those six Legends account for 282 players, 37% of the room; the other 473 are spread across everything else. Nobody has found the deck that beats the format yet, which three days after a set release is exactly what you'd expect.

Second, of the nine Radiance Legends only two crack the most-played list, Riven and Evelynn, together 128 players and 17% of the field. Seraphine, Orianna, K'Sante, Ekko, Ziggs, Jarvan IV and Mordekaiser all sit outside the top six. The overwhelming majority of the people playing for $6,000 in Sacramento trusted a tuned Vendetta or Unleashed deck over cards they had opened three days earlier.

The cardWhy everyone is on Riven

Riven, The Exile (RAD 149/167) is a hybrid Calm and Chaos Legend, meaning your deck may hold cards of both colours. Her text is a single line: "Units you play to battlefields you control enter ready." Battlefields are the three locations you fight over during a game, and a unit played there normally arrives "exhausted" — it has to wait a turn before it can do anything. Not under Riven: it lands on its feet and can defend or contest the battlefield straight away. That's a tempo turn gained every time, and it's why the deck appeals to anyone who wants to close games fast.

Early results line up with the choice. As we write, round four is underway, and the provisional top ten holds four Rivens and three Kennens. It's a tiny sample and it will look different by tonight, but it's the same pair leading the registration count. The same thing happened in Melbourne, where Riven was the only Radiance Legend in the top ten after six rounds.

Why it matters here. Two weeks from now, November 6-8, Stuttgart hosts the European Regional Championship, the biggest event of the autumn, with Radiance legal. Sacramento is the first sample large enough to show where that metagame starts from: Riven is the card to beat, Kennen is very much alive, and the rest of the field is up for grabs. For anyone in Italy building a deck right now, it's the most useful data available — and Sacramento's top four just claimed invites to Stuttgart or Las Vegas.

5th-8th$1,000 + Regional Qualifier pass

One prize doesn't depend on where you finish. Whoever places highest among everyone piloting the same Legend takes home the Plated Legend, the plated version of that card, for Unleashed, Vendetta and Radiance. The organizer hands them out before the Top 8 begins, and this is the very first chance anywhere to claim the Radiance Plated Legends.
