Nation Clash at Riftbound Regional Championship Europe: how it works
Nation Clash debuts at Regional Championship Europe in Stuttgart on November 7: every match scores for your country. Format, scoring, prizes and tickets from October 30.
The organizers said they would post the Nation Clash country standings during the weekend, but so far I haven't found them online. So I worked them out myself, from Saturday's official results. Sweden leads with 16.1 points per player across 11 players, two and a half points clear of Slovakia. With the points left on Sunday, no country can catch them anymore. Italy is 15th of 28, averaging 10.9 with 129 players.

The 8 rounds of the Nation Clash tournament (1,956 players) and the 6 Day 2 rounds of the Regional Championship (96 players), from the official tournament site. Points follow the official rules.
What counts is the country picked on the badge, which isn't public. I inferred it from the store tournaments each player plays at home, and I can place 98% of players. Anyone who plays at stores in another country may end up on the wrong team.
Nation Clash combines two tournaments. Players in Saturday's Nation Clash tournament and players on Day 2 of the Regional Championship both score for their country. At the end, each country's points are divided by its number of players: the highest average wins, not the biggest team. A country needs at least 5 players to be ranked. I covered the full rules in this article.
| Stage | When | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Nation Clash, 8 Swiss rounds | Saturday | 3 per win, 1 per draw |
| Regional Championship, 6 Day 2 rounds | Saturday | 4 per win, 1.33 per draw |
| Nation Clash, Top 8 | Sunday | 4 for the quarterfinal, 8 for the semifinal, 16 for the final |
| Regional Championship, Top 8 | Sunday | 6 for the quarterfinal, 12 for the semifinal, 24 for the final |

Another 12 countries have fewer than 5 players and aren't ranked.
Sweden has nobody in either Top 8 on Sunday, so they stay at 16.1. But the points still on the table are small next to their lead. Canada has CB Vekx3r in the Nation Clash Top 8: if he wins the quarterfinal, semifinal and final, that's 28 points and Canada climbs to 14.6. Greece, with isolator12, would reach 14.1. The United States has six players across the two Top 8s, but even winning everything they couldn't go past 13.8: there are 59 of them, and the points are split across everyone.
Sweden has no stars, just a team with no weak spots. Eight of the eleven play under the SHAM team tag. Three finished 7-1 (SHAM Yooric, SHAM Niklas and SHAM Fel), nine won at least 5 of 8 matches, and nobody won fewer than 3.
The biggest team is Germany: 647 players, almost a third of the field. But with an average, everyone who came just for fun counts too, and Germany is 25th at 8.5. That's exactly what the organizers wanted: France, with 350 players, is 21st, while the top of the table is full of countries with 6 to 11 players.
Italy brought 129 players: 120 in the Nation Clash tournament and 9 on Day 2 of the Regional Championship. At 10.9 it sits mid-table, between the Czech Republic (11.0) and Austria (10.1).
Each country awards a medal to the three players who score the most points for it. If my numbers are right, Italy's three are:
At the Regional Championship the best Italian is darkchri99: 9-3 and 9th place, one step from the Top 8. On Day 2 he won 4 of 6 matches, which is 16 points for Italy: not enough for a medal.
The Nation Clash tournament also has an individual winner, who takes home the Ekko with the CHAMPION stamp. After 8 rounds there are seven players at 8-0 and one at 7-0-1. The Top 8 starts on Sunday at 10:00 CET.
| # | Player | Record | Country |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | CTCG Collin K | 8-0 | United States |
| 2 | CB Vekx3r | 8-0 | Canada |
| 3 | isolator12 | 8-0 | Greece |
| 4 | nicolino | 8-0 | Italy |
| 5 | thefboss | 8-0 | Spain |
| 6 | RBD Alith | 8-0 | France |
| 7 | ASC weiseguy | 8-0 | United States |
| 8 | ZNT Agazapado | 7-0-1 | Spain |
Why it matters for Italy. nicolino is the only Italian in either Top 8 on Sunday. If he reaches the final he brings Italy at least 12 points, enough to move up to 14th ahead of the Czech Republic. If he wins, the CHAMPION Ekko comes to Italy. Regional Championship results are in the live standings, and everything on Stuttgart is in the complete guide.
