The announcementEight seats from each Regional Championship
That the Top 8 of a Regional Championship led to Worlds was already known: Riot wrote it on August 4, when it laid out the three tournaments. What was missing were the date and the place, and now they are here — end of January, in China. With three Regional Championships on the calendar, in Europe, North America and China, that makes twenty-four qualified players.
There is also a rule for duplicates, and it is needed because a Regional Championship invitation is not locked to a region: anyone who qualified at more than one Regional Qualifier can play both. If a player makes Top 8 at two different Regional Championships, the second invitation is neither lost nor stacked — it passes down to the next eligible finisher at that tournament, in other words to ninth place. Either way, twenty-four seats.
The calendarThree doors, and only one of them is ours
For players based in Italy there is one realistic shot, and it is three weeks away. The European Regional Championship runs at Messe Stuttgart, Hall H, from November 6 to 8: six Swiss rounds on Friday, Day 2 for anyone reaching 12 match points, six more rounds on Saturday and a single-elimination Top 8 on Sunday. There is a $50,000 prize pool on the line, and from this year those eight tickets to China as well.
| Event | When | Where |
|---|---|---|
| European Regional Championship | November 6-8, 2026 | Messe Stuttgart, Hall H (Germany) |
| North American Regional Championship | December 11-13, 2026 | Convergence Fest, Las Vegas (USA) |
| Chinese Regional Championship | Date to be announced | China |
| World Championship Showcase | End of January | China |
The unknownsWhat «Showcase» means, Riot has not said
A marker needs planting here, because the statement is deliberately short. Riot calls the event the "2026 Riftbound World Championship Showcase", so it carries the 2026 season's name even though it is played in January, which is to say in 2027. No Chinese city has been named, no format has been described, no prize figure has been given: the closing line is that Riot will share more about "what players will be competing for" in future updates.
It is not clear either why the word is "Showcase" rather than simply "World Championship". Riot frames it as the new target that replaces Overnumbered Foil Plated Legends in the ambitions of its best players: until yesterday the plated card was the most coveted prize at a Regional Championship, and from today those cards are handed out by finishing position, which leaves the ticket to China as the real objective. Until the details land, that is everything that is known.
Why it matters here. Because it changes what a weekend is worth. Until yesterday Stuttgart was the richest European tournament of the year; from today it is also the only European road to Riftbound's first World Championship, and the gap between eighth and ninth place is no longer just about prize money. For the Italians who qualified it means the Top 8 on Sunday, November 8 is worth a trip to China in January. For everyone else it means that Sunday is worth watching: no European player has ever qualified for a Riftbound World Championship, because there has never been one.
The short version
- Riftbound's first World Championship is called the World Championship Showcase and takes place in China at the end of January.
- You qualify by finishing Top 8 at a Regional Championship: three events, twenty-four invitations.
- A player who makes Top 8 twice passes the second invitation down to ninth place at that tournament.
- For Europe the only chance is Stuttgart, November 6-8.
- City, format and prizing have not been announced yet.
