Legacy to have 12 Legends and a playmat for each

Official key art for Riftbound Legacy, Set 6

NewsMarketby Riccardo Emanuele Eustor · Riftbound Zone

Legacy, Riftbound's sixth set and due on January 29, 2027, will reportedly launch with a playmat dedicated to each of its 12 Legends — a first for the game, according to community news account Riftbound Report. Riot has not confirmed it, and the only image doing the rounds is a distributor placeholder with no final artwork on it. The number does line up with what Riot said back in August, though: eight Legends named outright, plus "four more friends" still under wraps.

The leakWhat Riftbound Report says

The post went up on Friday, October 16 at 10:53 UTC and makes one claim, but a big one: "unlike previous sets, Legacy will launch with a playmat for each of the set's 12 Legends." A playmat is the mat you play on, the kind you normally win at tournaments or find inside a bundle; a Legend is the card standing in for the champion you are representing, the one you put down at the start of the game and cannot play without.

Riftbound Report is a secondary, unofficial source. Product details this far ahead almost always come from the catalogues distributors send to stores months before release, which is also why the image attached to the post shows no actual playmat — just a blue mock-up with the words "placeholder image" printed across it. The finished artwork, in other words, is still unseen.

The set and the dates

Name, set code, card count, preview, Pre-Rift and release dates, plus eight Legend names out of twelve. All published on August 5, 2026 on the official site.

The twelve playmats

A playmat per Legend appears nowhere on Riot's channels. No price, no date, no final image to go with it.

The namesEight Legends are already official, four are not

In its "Products and Sets into 2027" announcement Riot listed eight champions getting a Legend in Legacy: Ashe, Garen, Heimerdinger, Illaoi, Karma, Lux, Tryndamere and Vladimir, signing off with "and four more friends". If there really are twelve playmats, the arithmetic works: four Legends left to reveal.

Legacy is built around the regions of Runeterra — Demacia, Noxus, Ionia, Piltover/Zaun, Freljord and Bilgewater — and four champions also get a ready-to-play Champion Deck: Tryndamere, Ashe, Lux and Garen. The first cards turn up at Convergence Fest, December 13-15, with more previews in January.

The countWhy twelve playmats would be new

Riftbound playmats have been rationed so far, and nearly always tied to an occasion: prizes at official tournaments — like the three on the Prize Wall at the Stuttgart Regional Championship — or bundles and intro decks. One playmat per Legend, available from launch, is a different proposition: twelve collectables that arrive with the set rather than being won at a table.

Don't assume the rest just yet. Riftbound Report does not say whether the playmats will be sold on their own, packed into the Champion Decks or kept for events. Until Riot publishes the product page, that part of the story is missing.

Why it matters for us. Legacy is the set that will take Radiance's place at our club nights and tournaments: it lands on January 29, 2027, a week before the Madrid Regional Championship on February 5-7, the European stop closest to players in Italy. Knowing now that there will be twelve Legends gives a sense of how wide the set runs, and the Pre-Rift week of January 22-28 is when Italian stores will crack the first packs.
