MERC Koopastar has won the $25,000 Orlando Showdown Series at CoolStuffCon with Riven, The Exile. In the final Koopastar beat Tabris 2-1 in a Riven mirror, against the only player who had finished the Swiss rounds unbeaten. It is the second Showdown in a row won by Riven after Sacramento, just four days before the European Regional Championship in Stuttgart. Everything else about the event is in our complete Orlando guide.

After eleven Swiss rounds, seven on Saturday and four on Sunday, the Top 8 held four Riven, two Jayce, one Kha'Zix and one Kai'Sa. From there it was single elimination, best of three.
Koopastar, third seed after Swiss, swept CTCG Relivia 2-0 in a Riven quarterfinal, then beat LURK xSimo and their Kha'Zix, Voidreaver, the Legend that had led the standings after day one, 2-1. On the other side Tabris knocked out Zapdos, one of the two Jayce players, and beat Frosty 2-0 in the semis after Frosty's Kai'Sa had eliminated TM2's Riven.

The final was a rematch. Koopastar and Tabris had already met in Swiss round 10, and Tabris won: it was Koopastar's only loss of the weekend. Koopastar went into Saturday night as one of three undefeated players alongside xSimo and Vinnie on Rengar; on Sunday came the loss to Tabris, drew the next round and made the cut as the third seed. Then came three straight elimination wins. The final record is 12 wins, one loss and one draw, with 79% of individual games won.
According to zero.gg's player history, Koopastar played this year's Atlanta (April) and Hartford (June) Regional Qualifiers on Azir, Emperor of the Sands, finishing 43rd at Hartford out of more than two thousand players. Orlando is Koopastar's first big-event title.
To MERC Koopastar, who lost a single match all weekend.
To Tabris, the only player unbeaten across all eleven Swiss rounds.
Riven, The Exile is the Radiance Legend that has been dominating tournaments for weeks. Her text is a single line: units you play to battlefields you control enter ready. Normally a freshly played unit comes in exhausted, turned sideways, and can't do anything that turn; with Riven it can move and attack right away. In practice, the opponent never gets a turn to breathe and answer.
In Orlando 87 of the 526 players in the final standings picked her, roughly one in six, as we covered here. Across the last three Showdowns, the same Legend lost the Melbourne final, won Sacramento with Nam Dang and has now won Orlando. Koopastar's decklist has not been published yet; we will add it when it is.
Why it matters for us. The European Regional Championship in Stuttgart starts on Friday, November 6, with the same format and Radiance already legal, and plenty of Italian players will be there. Orlando was the last major event before it, and it confirms that anyone travelling needs a plan against Riven, mirror included. Stuttgart decklists are due by November 4, so there is still time to tune the sideboard.
